totransformteachingResident, Cambridge Public Schools

Bob Ettinger is currently pursuing his doctorate in education leadership at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He is completing his 10-month residency in the Cambridge Public Schools, as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet. Bob is leading the redesign of district systems and structures to support the use of school improvement plans in ongoing improvement processes. To achieve this goal, Bob has revised the school improvement plan (SIP) templates to focus on short-term outcomes and designed opportunities for school leaders to collaboratively reflect on progress towards those outcomes. During the 2013 – 2014 school year, Bob was the project manager for the Codified Knowledge Base project. In this role, Bob coordinated the interviews of education leaders and expert teachers and led a team of graduate students in analyzing the interviews to draft the outline of the project’s white paper.

Prior to his graduate work, Bob taught middle school science and math in the Boston Public Schools for four years and the Seattle Public Schools for five years. Bob received multiple state and national awards for teaching, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching and the Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence. In his last year in Seattle, Bob was a science and math coach at his school, as well as an advisor to the district’s science and math program manager. Starting in July 2015, Bob will be the Managing Director of K-12 STEM at KIPP DC.

Bob has a B.S. in geological sciences from Brown University, a M.Ed. from the Boston Teacher Residency at the University of Massachusetts Boston, and is a National Board Certified Teacher.
